Photos from the Dubai Pet Show 2013

At last! The day we’ve been looking forward to – Happydoggy gets to see tons of dogs at the Dubai Pet Show!

Dubai doesn’t allow dogs in parks so dogs don’t really get a chance to meet many others  – perhaps they’ll meet one or two on a walk but to make sure he gets to experience being a dog, we take him to doggy day care once a week so he can spend the day with his own kind.

I’m sure there were more stands last year but we all had fun. It’s amazing to see how many dogs there are in Dubai.

The only down side was this woman I saw letting her black pug-like dog do a poo right next to the water bowl. She watched him do it and stepped back. I couldn’t help myself, had to ask her to pick it up. She nodded, refused to make eye contact and more importantly wouldn’t pick up the poo.

It’s people like her who make all dog owners look bad. Good side is that she was in the minority.

Here are the photos.

Happydoggy (cream) met Bailey (chocolate), another Tegan Australian Labradoodle just like him! They have the same mannerisms, it was wonderful to see them together.

I remember seeing this imposing fellow last year. There can't be too many St Bernards's in Dubai!

We ended the day by taking Happydoggy into the desert where we ran up and down the dunes as the sun set. Well he ran, I staggered after him.

I went to the dog show and thoroughly enjoyed it!

I was helping out K9 Friends and roped my hubby and a friend into walk the K9 dogs that were at the show looking for a home. It was my friend’s first exposure to rescue dogs (hubby and I have a fantastic ex K9 dog) and she was amazed by how lovely, friendly and affectionate Polly and Dakota were (Dakota is the dog who was highlighted at the show, somebody in her past cut her ears off entirely). My friend is desperate to get a dog and said she would never before have consider a rescue dog as she assumed then would all have had traumatic pasts and therefore have serious behaviour problems now. She now know better and was so sad to say goodbye to Polly and Dakota at the end of the day – we all were and hopefully they will find loving homes soon.

I’d encourage anybody thinking of getting a dog to give serious consideration to giving a rescue dog a much-needed home. K9 Friends is very careful with its placement of dogs and will discuss your needs with you before you pick a dog to make sure both canine and humans are happy together.

At the moment there are over 130 dogs at K9’s shelter. All are looking for a loving home and will love you right back the way only a dog can :)
