There’s a fabulous butcher called Prime Gourmet on Sheik Zayed Road, Al Quoz, that sells great quality meat and a variety of tasty sausages.
Unfortunately they only stock lamb and beef. No chicken. So I have to get chicken from the local supermarket where the chicken breasts come pre-packaged in 500g packs.
For a while now, I’ve been wondering why it is that some weeks I have chicken left over to make jerky for Happydoggy and some weeks I don’t.
So Little Miss Marple got her digital scales out and weighed the chicken. These are my findings over a 4 week period. Remember the packaging says 500g.
Week 1: 452g
Week 2: 475g
Week 3: 531g
Week 4: 483g
Hmm. Explains a lot!
I emailed Consumer Rights in Dubai to ask what the rules are regarding weights and measures of packaged products in this country.
They told me they’d passed on my enquiry to the the appropriate department and that I would hear back from them as soon as possible.
A week later I chased them up but I did not get a reply. Two months later, I’m still waiting.
So the mystery remains unsolved. Does the UAE have an official weight tolerance on their prepacked chicken?
Does anyone know? Does anyone care?
